Caution: unsafe water near Onake

The Community Protection Unit (CPU) and Environmental Health Services (EHS) are advising community members to NOT utilize the water surrounding the Onake Paddling Club due to unsafe bacteria levels.

The area of concern is between the bridge and approximately 30 yards west of Onake. Routine water tests resulted in high levels of a bacteria known as coliform, which derives from fecal matter from animals. Exposure to high levels of this bacteria is unsafe.

Community members are advised NOT TO go in the water until further notice.
