Tewatohnhisaktha Career Building Skills Program gets a boost from the Social Development Unit

08/17/2015

Tewatohnhi’saktha and the Mohawk Council of Kahnawà:ke are pleased to announce that two additional sessions of the Career Building Skills (CBS) program will be offered, starting in September 2015.

The majority of the funding for the program, totalling $19,350, will be provided by the Mohawk Council of Kahnawà:ke’s Social Development Unit (SDU), through their Enhanced Service Delivery program. The funding will cover the costs for consultants, travel, an assistant coordinator and a French language component. Tewatohnhi′saktha will resume the coordination of the program and assume the related costs. Interested community members can contact the program’s coordinator, Kara Paul, to register. The application deadline is 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday September 9, 2015.

“The CBS program was such a success and made a difference in the lives of so many of our community members. We are so grateful to the Social Development Unit for allowing us this opportunity to help even more Kahnawa’kehró:non,” said Angie Marquis, the Interim Director of Tewatohnhi′saktha’s Employment & Training Division.

Alexis Shackleton, the Director of SDU, added, “The primary focus of SDU is to provide and maintain a better quality of life for all Kahnawa’kehró:non, and we saw the investment in the CBS Program as the perfect opportunity to uphold our mission.”

The funds from the past CBS sessions were provided by Service Canada, and expired on March 31, 2015.
