Grand Chiefs to meet in Kahnawake tomorrow
08/27/2015
The Mohawk Council of Kahnawà:ke (MCK) wishes to inform the community that Grand Chiefs Serge Otsi Simon of Kanehsatà:ke and Abram Benedict of the Mohawk Council of Akwesá:sne will be visiting Kahnawà:ke tomorrow (Friday) morning to meet with Grand Chief Joseph Tokwiro Norton.
The meeting has no formal agenda and will offer an opportunity for the chiefs to get acquainted and discuss issues of mutual concern.
“This type of meeting is always useful,” said Grand Chief Norton. “This is an opportunity to strengthen the bonds that unite us. While each community has its own issues and challenges, we still have far more in common with each other than we sometimes realize.”
“I’ve been away from this office for a few years, Abram was only recently elected for the first time as Grand Chief, and Otsi Simon has had an interesting past few years as Chief in Kanesatake,” he added. “I think we’re all looking forward to this.”
The meeting will take place at 10am at the MCK offices.
