Consensus reached on two sections of Amendments to Membership Law
09/16/2015
The Mohawk Council of Kahnawà:ke (MCK) wishes to provide the community with an update regarding last evening’s meeting on proposed amendments to the Kahnawà:ke Membership Law.
Consensus was reached on the three agenda items (Section 5 on the Registrar; Section 6 on the Kahnawà:ke Kanien’kehá:ka Registry; and the review and approval of any related Definitions in Section 4).
Approximately 25 community members attended. Due to the number of participants, it was decided to utilize a single group format. Discussion and debate was spirited and, for the most part, very positive. A small number of suggestions were accepted and will be incorporated into the next draft. Final and complete consensus was reached at 8:26pm, at which time the meeting concluded. Once completed, the final Record of Discussion for the meeting will be posted at www.kahnawakemakingdecisions .
It was also announced last evening that the next meeting has been scheduled for Tuesday, October 13th, 2015 at the Knights of Columbus Hall. The agenda will be announced in advance of the meeting.
Last night’s was the third meeting of the current phase (technically entitled ‘First Hearing’), which began on April 14 of this year.
