Dedication Ceremony for Orville Standup Park
09/17/2015
The Mohawk Council of Kahnawà:ke is inviting the community to the Dedication Ceremony of the newly constructed Orville Standup Park on Friday, September 18th at 1pm.
Rose Standup is expected to attend and perform the ribbon cutting to officially dedicate the playground, which will honor the memory of her late husband Orville, who passed away suddenly last year. He was instrumental in founding and operating the Kateri Food Basket, which continues to provide food and groceries for the less fortunate in the community.
“We’re very proud to honor such a good man,” said Chief Carl Horn, who played a major role in the fundraising for the project. “First and foremost Orville was a family man, so having his name attached to a playground is fitting.”
The park is actually an expansion of the small unnamed playground located at the green space next to the old K103 building. The new equipment, which meets the highest current safety standards, was installed in the past two weeks. Over $24,000 was raised in order to make the new park possible.
