Dreams Take Flight – seven local kids taking part

11/03/2015

The Mohawk Council of Kahnawà:ke (MCK) is pleased to announce that seven Kahnawà:ke children will be visiting Walt Disney World courtesy of Air Canada’s ‘Dreams Take Flight’ program. This is the largest contingent of locals since Kahnawà:ke has been taking part.

The kids will board a special Air Canada flight along with approximately 177 other children and depart Montreal during the wee hours tonight, arriving in Orlando, Florida early tomorrow morning. As always, several MCK staff, including Chiefs Gina Deer and Bobby Patton, are volunteering to accompany the kids to the Air Canada Technical Center at Trudeau Airport to send them off.

Ken Bourque is an MCK employee who worked for Air Canada in the past and has been instrumental in getting the MCK involved in this unique program. "We are so excited that we have more Kahnawà:ke children than ever going on this year′s trip," said Bourque. "We would like to thank Dreams Take Flight, The Air Canada Foundation, MCK, Shakotiia’takehnhas Community Services, the Peacekeepers, Fire Brigade and all the people and sponsors who make this a Special Day for our Children."

The Dreams Take Flight Foundation is a volunteer-based charitable organization dedicated to providing a magical experience to disadvantaged children in eight Canadian cities. The volunteer team is dedicated to providing a wonderful experience that only a day in Disney World can provide at no cost to the children or their families. The Montreal chapter has been in operation for twenty years.

The MCK has been involved in Dreams Take Flight since 2004. Children are selected by Kahnawà:ke Shakotiia’takehnhas Community Services based on requirements and standards set by the Dreams Take Flight organization.

The group is expected to return around 1am Thursday morning.
