Delay announced for next meeting for proposed Tobacco Law
11/19/2015
The Kahnawà:ke Legislative Coordinating Commission (KLCC) would like to advise Kahnawa’kehró:non that the meeting scheduled for the proposed Kahnawà:ke Tobacco Law has been postponed to a later date.
The reason for the delay is for the KLCC to examine concerns from a number of individuals regarding feedback that they submitted to the Tobacco working group (consisting of representatives from both the Mohawk Council of Kahnawà:ke and the Kahnawake Tobacco Association) prior to the first meeting on 29, Kenténha/October 2015. This feedback was included in the documentation that accompanied draft copies of the law used during the first meeting. The individuals stated to the KLCC that the published feedback did not accurately reflect their comments. In an effort to remain completely transparent the KLCC has decided to examine the issue.
The next meeting, using the Community Decision Making Process, was originally scheduled to take place on Tuesday, 24 Kentenhkó:wa/November 2015. A new date for the next meeting will be announced once the KLCC has completed its examination of the issue.
