MCK receives notice from advocacy group
12/03/2015
The Mohawk Council of Kahnawà:ke (MCK) is informing the community that they have received a request by the Canadian Human Rights Commission (CHRC) to respond to allegations of discrimination made by five individuals with the Center for Research-Action on Race Relations (CRARR). The request to respond to these allegations was received by the Grand Chief’s Office on 23 Kentenhkó:wa/November 2015.
CRARR is representing individuals who are all claiming discrimination stemming from the fact that they are not currently on the Kahnawà:ke Kanien’keháka Registry.
The CHRC is requesting certain information from the MCK in order to conduct its investigation and provide a preliminary report.
The MCK would like to advise the community that it is meeting with its legal advisors and will not publicly offer comment until Chief and Council are fully updated and /or informed on the matter.
