MCK sending condolences to Naskapi Nation over tragic loss of students
12/07/2015
The Mohawk Council of Kahnawą:ke (MCK) wishes to inform the community that it is sending a letter of condolences to the Naskapi Nation following the tragic news that two students from the community of Kawawachikamach passed away as a result of an accident in Lachine yesterday.
The two were taking courses in the region and were living in an apartment in Lachine, where the accident took place. Jimmy Diamond Shacapanish, 32, and Job Gawanish, 23, were studying to become electricians. At this time, their friend Allen Nabinacaboo is in critical condition as a result of the same accident.
This is a tragic day for the family and friends of these two young men, said Chief Rhonda Kirby. The fact that they were far from home working towards their educational goals just adds to the tragedy. All of us in Kahnawą:ke share their pain and we offer our deepest condolences to the entire Naskapi Nation.
The academic portions of their education took place in Kahnawą:ke at the First Nations Regional Adult Education Center.
