Warning to Pet Owners from Animal Protection

The Animal Protection Department of the Mohawk Council of Kahnawà:ke wishes to inform the community that the Dog Pound Facility was recently condemned and demolished, seriously limiting the ability to house animals.

As a result, if your pet is picked up you will have a maximum of 3 days to reclaim it, as indicated in the Animal Protection By-Law. After 3 days the animal will be placed in an area rescue shelter or SPCA and it will be the owner’s responsibility to reclaim it from the receiving shelter.

Please note that the fees to reclaim are substantially higher than what Animal Protection charges.

In order to avoid this, please be a responsible pet owner and not allow your pet to run loose in the community. Please keep your pets indoors, fenced in, on leash or tied up.
