Important notice to community regarding email fraud scam
01/11/2016
The Kahnawake Mohawk Peacekeepers and the Public Safety Unit of the Mohawk Council of Kahnawà:ke are warning community members to be vigilant against email scams currently circulating around Kahnawà:ke.
The most common recent scam involves receiving an email from someone you know with their actual email address. In the email, the person claiming to be your friend/acquaintance, is in trouble and is requesting immediate financial assistance.
“We have had Kahnawa’kehró:non say that they have received these emails very recently,” said Assistant Chief Peacekeepers Jody Diabo. “If you receive an email like this, contact the person by phone or in-person to let them know their account has been compromised.”
Anyone who receives such an email should delete the email and notify their contacts to prevent anyone from becoming a victim to these types of scams.
