Closures on the Mercier Bridge on January 19th and 20th

01/18/2016

The Mohawk Council of Kahnawà:ke (MCK) has been informed that the Ministère des Transports du Québec (MTQ) will require the closure of one lane in both directions on the Mercier Bridge on Tuesday, January 19th from 10pm to 5am to work on the lighting system.

On Wednesday, January 20th the Kahnawake-bound bridge will be completely closed from 10pm to 5am to change of a traffic sign. The Airlie entrance on the LaSalle side of the bridge will also be closed. Both lanes towards Montreal will remain open to traffic.

The MTQ is recommending the Champlain Bridge as an alternate route to reach the south shore. This configuration will ensure road users safety in case of bad weather and will facilitate snow removal and de-icing operations that might be required. These operations cannot be properly performed with two-way traffic because the width of the lanes is not adequate for snow removal vehicles.

In case of bad weather this closure will be postponed to January 27th.

The MCK reminds the public that these works are subject to change due to weather conditions, operational constraints or work progression, and that it does not take part in the scheduling or cancellation of such works.
