Survey gauging interest of potential Water Taxi project
02/19/2016
The Mohawk Council of Kahnawà:ke (MCK) announced the launch of a survey to gauge interest in the creation of a Water Taxi service that would provide Kahnawa’kehró:non access to the North side of the Saint Lawrence Seaway (“North Wall”).
Currently, only those who use a boat or drive over by the Ste-Catherine locks are able to access the shoreline of the Saint Lawrence River. The water taxi would allow Kahnawa’kehró:non to cross by boat near the CPR Train bridge and land at the emergency docks on the North Wall.
“Since the construction of the Seaway in the 1950’s, our community has been displaced from the water,” said Ratitsénhaienhs Kenneth McComber. “Having a water taxi would provide Kahnawa’kehró:non easier access to the river.”
Participants in the survey could provide feedback on feasibility, scheduling, ticketing and any comments they feel should be considered with such a project.
The survey is available online at www.kahnawake.com/watertaxi until Friday, March 4th and hardcopies are available at the Main Reception desk of the MCK.
