Agenda announced for March 8th Membership Law Hearing

The Kahnawà:ke Legislative Coordinating Commission would like to inform the community that the agenda has been formalized for next week’s Hearing into proposed amendments to the Kahnawà:ke Membership Law. The agenda items are as follows:
- Continuing discussion on Section 14.7, which reads: “A child who has no Kanien’keháka or Indigenous lineage adopted by a Kanien’keháka of Kahnawà:ke parent(s) after the enactment of this law on November 10, 2003 is not eligible to be recognized as a Kanien’keháka of Kahnawà:ke or be an Approved Kahnawà:ke Resident”
- The Definition of ‘Great Grand Parent’ will be revisited
- Section 15 ‘Application Process/Approved Kahnawà:ke Residents’
- Section 16 ‘Entitlements of Kanien’keháka of Kahnawà:ke’
- Relevant/related Definitions will be addressed as they arise
The meeting will take place from 6pm to 8:30pm on Tuesday, March 8, 2016 at the Golden Age Club. Those planning to participate are asked to read the sections indicated in the agenda in advance, if at all possible.
