Notice regarding changes to Revenu Quebec forms

03/11/2016

The Mohawk Council of Kahnawà:ke (MCK) wishes to advise community members who file returns to Revenue Quebec may be affected by changes in regard to the solidarity tax credit, which is tax measure created to assist low- and middle-income households.

Criteria for filling out Schedule D of the form are not relevant to most, if not all, Kahnawa’kehró:non. Therefore, Revenu Quebec has created a transitional measure to address the issue caused by the differences in housing situations on reserve. Revenue Quebec is informing Native communities located in the province that it will implement a long-term measure to address this concern.

“While we know that many Kahnawa’kehró:non don’t file to Revenue Quebec, those that do should be aware of the changes,” said MCK Tax Consultant John Latour. “The changes should address the confusion caused by having a section (‘Schedule D’) that just doesn’t have any relevance to many of our people.”

In the meantime, special instructions have been made available by Revenu Quebec in order to make it easier to fill out Schedule D in order to claim the solidarity tax credit (see attached)
