Membership Law Hearing resumes tomorrow Tuesday evening
03/21/2016
The Mohawk Council of Kahnawà:ke (MCK) wishes to advise the community that the Hearing for proposed amendments to the Kahnawà:ke Membership Law will be held tomorrow (Tuesday) evening at the Golden Age Club. The agenda, as previously announced, is confirmed as follows:
- The Definition of ‘Great Grand Parent’ will be completed
- Section 15 ‘Application Process/Approved Kahnawà:ke Residents’
- Section 16 ‘Entitlements of Kanien’keháka of Kahnawà:ke’
- Relevant/related Definitions will be addressed as they arise
“I will repeat what I said earlier,” said membership Portfolio Chief Kahsennenhawe Sky-Deer, “We are probably right in the middle of the most challenging sections of the law. If people have concerns or ideas, they need to participate. This process is community-led – not MCK-led – so it is of utmost importance that people get involved and not only complain once decisions are already made.”
“The reaction to the results of the last meeting is disappointing in that people knew the agenda in advance,” she continued. “That being said, the problematic wording in the proposed amendment to the Adoption section is not final but, rather, is a reflection of the decision. We will discuss this tomorrow evening.”
Tomorrow’s meeting will begin at 6pm and end at 8:30pm. Copies of the law and the Record of Conclusions of previous meetings are available at www.kahnawakemakingdecisions.com , the Kahnawà:ke Legislative Commission website.
