White Horse Delegation to visit Kahnawake

The Mohawk Council of Kahnawą:ke wishes to inform the community that a delegation from the Ta’an Kwäch’än First Nation in Whitehorse, Yukon Territory will be visiting Kahnawą:ke to take part in a Justice Forum tomorrow, Wednesday, March 23rd.

Wishing to learn more about Kahnawą:ke′s policing, governance and justice implementation, the group will attend a day-long workshop featuring the following presentations:

  • ′Kahnawą:ke and Contemporary Politics′ by Grand Chief Joseph Tokwiro Norton
  • ′A Historical Approach to Iroquois Governance′ by Chief Christine Zachary-Deom
  • ′Kahnawą:ke Justice and First Nations Policing′ by Ron Skye, Director of Justice Services
  • ′The Kahnawą:ke Justice Commission and Judicial Act′ by Kevin Fleischer, Interim Director of Justice Services
  • ′The Kahnawą:ke Decision Making Process′ by Chief Kahsennenhawe Sky-Deer
  • ′Kahnawą:ke′s Approach to Alternative Dispute Resolution′ by Jo-Ann Stacey, Coordinator, Skén:nen A’onsón:ton  
A tour of the Kahnawake Peacekeeper facility will follow the presentations.

The delegation is made up of Council members, elders, youth and justice caucus members from Ta’an Kwäch’än First Nation.
