Speed Bump Installation around Kateri School area

04/04/2016

The Public Safety Unit of the Mohawk Council of Kahnawà:ke wishes to inform the community that Speed Bumps will be installed on River Road between Kateri School and the Kahnawake Youth Center, and at the crossing from Kateri School to the ′Our Gang′ White House on Church Road.

The Child Injury Prevention Network has received multiple reports from community members who have expressed their grave concern for cars not stopping around the Kateri School area. Although, a traffic mirror was recently installed on the Tourism Office for increased visibility, it was decided to increase efforts in the area.

"This is a grass roots community effort to keep our children safe," said Arnold Lazare, Director of Public Safety. "All stakeholders have been consulted and agree with the project, which will be monitored and evaluated."

The speed bumps will be placed so as to not hamper emergency response while ensuring vehicles respect the stop signs. Installation is expected to take place on Thursday, April 7th.

Questions about the project can be addressed to Arnold Lazare, Director of Public Safety by calling 450-632-0635 or emailing arnold.lazare@mck.ca.
