MCK adopts Antenna Siting Protocol
04/05/2016
The Mohawk Council of Kahnawà:ke wishes to inform the community that Chief & Council have adopted a new Antenna System Siting Protocol. The Protocol is designed to regulate the installation and existence of antennas within Kahnawà:ke. Previous to the adoption of this Protocol, a moratorium was put in place in 2003 to not allow private individuals the right to utilize private lands for the erection of towers either for non-Native external business or personal ventures. The Antenna Siting System Protocol will ensure that telecommunications companies use existing antennae, buildings and structures before installing a new antenna. New tower installations will need to be vetted through the Public Safety Unit to ensure they are built according to industry standards and meet all local safety standards. “It is always better to have standards and regulations in place to help prevent potential problems,” said Ratsénhaienhs Carl Horn. “Additionally, if problems do occur, the protocols will make it easier to deal with issues on a timely basis.”
Questions or concerns regarding the protocol can be directed to Ratsénhaienhs Horn at 450-632-7500.
