Safety mechanisms at railway crossing deactivated for maintenance

The Mohawk Council of Kahnawą:ke (MCK) has just been informed by CP Rail that the safety mechanisms for all railway crossing within the community will be deactivated today while maintenance work is carried out.
The safety mechanism of each crossing, including the arm, lights and alarm will not function while the work is carried out. However, CP personnel will be on-site directing traffic to ensure the safety of all motorists crossing the tracks.
The crossings affected include:
- Route 132 (border of Kahnawą:ke and St-Constant); - Mohawk Trail (crossing towards New Development) - Mohawk Trail (crossing towards Karihwanoron) - Clay Mountains. Motorists are advised to use extreme caution in these areas as the safety signals will not be activated as trains pass by.
