Water Taxi survey results now available online

The Mohawk Council of Kahnaw�:ke is announcing that results for the Water Taxi Survey carried out in April are now available for viewing online at www.kahnawake.com .
 
The survey was initiated by Rats�nhaienhs Kenneth McComber, who was gauging interest on whether Kahnawa′kehr�:non would use a water taxi service to access the North Wall side of the Saint Lawrence Seaway.
 
"The water taxi would create easier access for our people to all of our land and our river," said McComber.
 
A total of 54 surveys were completed online, in person and at the Services Complex. Within the total, 8 were completed and hand delivered to McComber. Overall, 30 people would use the service at least one or more times per week. The survey shows that week-ends would be best between 9am-7pm.
 
The overall total number of participants in the survey (54) indicates a possible lack of interest in this particular survey as it was not a survey to ask for a decision, but gauging potential use and days/times of the week. Further, 6 of those who would use the taxi were under the impression it would bring them to the island of Montreal, which is not the case.

Given that a vast majority would pay a $5 fee for the service, combined with low overall participation, the results indicate that the Water Taxi project would be best operating one day per week, on a weekend between 9am - 7pm to start with.

The survey conducted was non-technical and bears no percentile of accuracy, as it was only to gauge the interest and usage of a potential water taxi service.
