The Mohawk Council of Kahnawà:ke (MCK) wishes to inform the community that the Spring Tioweró:ton Meeting will be held on Saturday, 28 Onerahtohkó:wa/May at 1pm at the main entrance (caretaker’s residence) at Tioweró:ton.
“We’d like to develop the meeting agenda with direct input from those who use the Territory,” said Lead Portfolio Chief Billy Diabo. “I’ll be at a kiosk at the Services Complex next Wednesday, May 25th to hear their suggestions or concerns.”
Additionally, Ratsénhaienhs Diabo says that an Ecological Study will take place in Tioweró:ton this summer, with the overall objective of providing ecological mapping and land use recommendations for the entire Territory to help guide the decision-making of the Tioweró:ton Committee.
“The short term goal of this project is to halt the degradation of sensitive habitats, as well as impacts to hunting, fishing and gathering areas due to cabin development, active recreational activities and other factors,” he stated.
Once the community input has been gathered, the formal agenda for the May 28th meeting will be announced.
