Water shut-offs commence
06/13/2016
The Mohawk Council of Kahnawà:ke (MCK) regrets to inform the community that Public Works crews will begin shutting off water service to residents who have not yet paid their annual $59 fee.
Home water shut-offs occur annually and water is restored once payment is received. Every homeowner receiving a water shut off has already previously been advised twice of the payment deadline of March 31st.
Community members are urged to check in with their family members to see if they have not paid and had their water shut off. Often, some believe the water shut off is temporary and do not realize the reason for the shut-off.
If your water has been turned off, you must pay the regular $59 plus a re-connection fee of $10 before the water is turned back on. Payments can be made weekdays at the main building of the MCK between the hours of 8:30am and 4pm.
Additionally, rural homeowners who have not paid run the risk of having to pay out-of-pocket if their well and/or septic system fails.
The $59 Water Fee offsets the cost of Water & Sewer services in the Community, which is approximately $1,250,000 annually, or $600 per home. We apologize in advance for any inconvenience this may cause.
