Meeting with Quebec Ministers deemed positive

The Mohawk Council of Kahnawà:ke (MCK) would like to inform the community that Friday’s meeting with Quebec’s Minister of Finance Carlos Leitáo and Minister of Native Affairs Geoffrey Kelley has been deemed a success.

Grand Chief Joseph Tokwiro Norton, Ietsénhaienhs Gina Deer, MCK Chief Political Advisor Winona Polson-Lahache and project leader Lloyd Phillips attended the meeting held late Friday morning in Montreal.

“We’re very pleased at how productive the meeting went,” said Ietsénhaienhs Deer. “We addressed Bill 74 (the Quebec anti-Internet gaming legislation), taxation issues and the relationship between Kahnawà:ke and Quebec. Minister Leitáo has made a commitment to meet with again in the very near future, so we are considering this a success.”
