Letters to Residents and Businesses along 207 and OCR re Truck Restrictions

The Public Safety Unit of the Mohawk Council of Kahnawà:ke would like to inform all Kahnawa′kehró:non that a letter to residents and business owners along Route 207 and Old Chateauguay Road (OCR) explaining details of upcoming restrictions for heavy truck traffic are being placed in all local mail boxes via Canada Post today.
The Letter states what types of trucks will be subject to the ban and lists the categories for exceptions, which include:
- Vehicles providing local deliveries;
- Vehicles in possession of valid permits issued by the MCK;
- MCK Public Works vehicles;
- Emergency vehicles; and,
- Any class or type of vehicles specifically identified by the Public Safety Commissioner as being exempt from the present directive, are exempt from this restriction.
These restrictions will come into effect 30 days after the installation of the new signage installed by the Kahnawà:ke Public Works Department, which is schedule for the end of July/2016.
No local businesses will be affected as all trucks going to and from local businesses will be able to access the 207 via Highway 30.
