07/21/2016
The Mohawk Council of Kahnawà:ke (MCK) would like to advise the community that Melanie Mayo has been re-appointed as a commissioner to the Kahnawà:ke Gaming Commission (KGC) for a two year term.
The appointment was formalized at a duly convened Council Meeting on 18, Ohiarí:ha/June 2016 and was passed unanimously.
“We are very pleased to have Melanie back for another term,” said Gaming Portfolio Chief Gina Deer. “Melanie has all the attributes needed for a good commissioner, as well as ongoing knowledge and commitment needed to maintain a consistent highly functioning team.”
The term is effective immediately and will run until 30, Ohiarí:ha/June 2018.
Proposed amendments to the Kahnawake Gaming Law (KGL) have been submitted to the Kahnawà:ke Legislative Coordinating Commission to have KGC commissioners appointed rather than elected, using the Community Decision Making Process. Pursuant to section 10.1 of the KGL, Chiefs have been appointing commissioners since 1996 due to an initial lack of candidates through the election process.
“This has proven to be very beneficial to the Commission′s function,” continued Ietsénhaienhs Deer.
