Federal Heritage Minister Mélanie Joly visits Kahnawake

The Mohawk Council of Kahnawà:ke (MCK) wishes to advise the community that the Honorable Mélanie Joly, the federal Minister of Heritage, is in Kahnawà:ke this afternoon for an official visit.
Minister Joly will meet with Chief & Council, where she will be given an overview of Kahnawà:ke language initiatives. This will be followed by visits to Tsi Niionkwarihò:ten Tsitewaháhara’n Center (MCK’s Language and Culture Training Program Office); the Iakwahwatsiratátie Kahnawà:ke Language Nest; and the Kanien’kehá:ka Onkwawén:na Raotitióhkwa Language & Cultural Center.
“I’m very excited to have yet another Minister to come and visit Kahnawà:ke and see first-hand our advancements in the area of Language and Cultural Revitalization, said Ietsénhaienhs Kahsennenhawe Sky-Deer. “We have a lot to be proud of and this will be an opportunity for us to showcase the different programs and initiatives we have in the Community. There is always more than can be done, so we hope to highlight areas that can be funded and developed in the future through the Heritage budget.”
