Changes announced in agenda for upcoming Membership Law Hearing
09/08/2016
The Kahnawà:ke Legislative Coordinating Commission (KLCC) would like to inform the community of revisions to the agenda for the upcoming Hearing on proposed amendments to the Kahnawà:ke Membership Law, which is scheduled for this coming Tuesday.
The changes were requested by the proponent of the proposed amendments (the Mohawk Council of Kahnawà:ke (MCK) Membership Department, along with the MCK Membership Portfolio Chiefs). The proponents feel that all discussion revolving around ‘Approved Kahnawà:ke Residents’ would be more appropriately addressed in the Community Decision Making Process for a residency law – which has already been proposed. A more in-depth explanation of the reasoning for the changes will be offered at the beginning of the meeting.
The revised agenda is as follows:
- Sec. 16, Entitlements of the Kanien’kehá:ka of Kahnawà:ke
- Sec. 18, Responsibilities of Kanien’kehá:ka of Kahnawà:ke
- Sec. 20.1, Kanien’kehá:ka of Kahnawà:ke Pledge and Oath of Respect
- Any relevant/related Definitions
The Hearing, which will be the 15th meeting in this First Hearing phase of the Community Decision Making Process, will take place on Tuesday, 13 Seskehkó:wa/ September 2016 from 6p to 8:30pm at the Golden Age Club. Relevant documents can be viewed at www.kahnawakemakingdecisions.com
