Report night-time hunting to Kahnawake Peacekeepers
09/26/2016
The Public Safety Unit, in conjunction with Kahnawake Peacekeepers have been informed by community members that there is an apparent rise in the night-time hunting style in Kahnawà:ke, using bright lights (also known as Jacklighting).
Jacklighting is considered an “illegal” practice. What is more disconcerting is that hunters are shooting in directions/areas near residential or recreational areas in Kahnawà:ke where the bullets may cause damage or injure community members.
Additionally, some are hunting in areas without informing or getting permission of the land owners, which is also very dangerous.
The aim of this public safety announcement is to bring attention to this issue to avoid any injuries, which are totally preventable.
If anyone sees anyone hunting illegally or using firearms in an unsafe manner, they are urged to report it at ONCE to the Kahnawake Peacekeepers at (450) 632-6505.
