Consensus reached on all agenda items at Membership Law Hearing
10/05/2016
The Kahnawà:ke Legislative Coordinating Commission (KLCC) would like to inform the community that consensus was reached on all agenda items at last evening’s Hearing on proposed amendments to the Kahnawà:ke Membership Law, which was the 17th meeting in this current phase of the Community Decision Making Process.
The three sections on the agenda were Sec. 21, (Suspension and Revocation); Sec. 22, (Renunciation – related to Kanien’kehá:ka of Kahnawà:ke); and Sec. 23, (Regulations - list of regulations), along with any relevant/related Definitions. Consensus was reached after certain changes were made to the published suggested amendments. The main change (in bold italics) was to Sec. 21.3, where wording in the first sentence will be developed by the Drafting Team to reflect the regulatory process.
The agenda was completed at 8:05pm. While there was a suggestion that the group carry on with following sections, this was rejected as the agenda made public beforehand only covered three sections of the law.
The 18th meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, 25 Kenténha/October at the usual time of 6 to 8:30pm. Please note that this meeting will be held at the Karonhianohnha School Gymnasium. The agenda will be announced shortly. Relevant documents can be viewed at www.kahnawakemakingdecisions.com, the KLCC website.
