Curbside Leaf Collection service dates announced – use of paper bags strongly encouraged
10/12/2016
The Kahnawà:ke Waste Management Department is pleased to announce that, as part of Kahnawà:ke’s Waste Reduction Plan, a Curbside Leaf Collection service will be provided for the community on Thursday, October 27th and Thursday, November 17th. The Waste Management Department encourages community members to consider fallen leaves as a resource that can be used to feed your lawn, made into mulch or composted. As a last resort, please bag your leaves for collection. Community members who would like to use this service are asked to ensure that only leaves are placed in paper bags and are curbside by 7am on the indicated days. Paper bags are preferred, but clear plastic bags will be accepted this year. The goal for 2017 is to use only paper bags for composting (plastic bags or bags that have contents other than leaves contaminate the finished compost material). Collected leaves will be composted at the Transfer Depot rather than wasted in a landfill. This service is offered to provide an alternative to throwing fallen leaves into the garbage. For more info on this Leaf Pick-up service call the Waste Management Department at 450-632-5825.
