Kanátakon TV one year trial period ends today

10/31/2016

Today (October 31) marks the last day in a one-year trial period that nine Community Organizations work together to run 4 days of programming on Kaná:takon TV (Paul’s Cable Channel 300-399). As of November 1st, Paul’s Cable staff will resume operating the channel full-time as they did prior to November 1, 2015. The Organizations have been informed that the current schedule will remain until Paul’s Cable re-evaluates how the channel will operate.

The Organizations (*KYC, *MCK, Step by Step, *KOR, *KEC, Tewatohnhi′saktha, *KSCS, *KMHC, *KFB) began coordinating four days of programming on November 1, 2015, which included Culture Day, Community Day and Sports Day. The Organizations will continue airing programming on the channel but will discontinue operating the channel on those days.

"We simply haven′t been able to secure sponsors to help create more programming," said Paul Communications′ Tyler Diabo. "Paul′s did fund some sports programming, but there were never enough sponsorships to cover all costs."

As a result, MCK Communications often took care of ensuring Sports content was completed and/or had to assist in production. Weekend programming was reserved for Community members to submit Arts & Entertainment, such as concerts or locally produced movies, but there were no major sponsors willing to help create such programming. MCK Communications was able film a few concerts and assist in various areas to help create some content as the staff volunteered to do so, but these proved difficult to sustain.

The nine Organizations would like to thank Paul’s Cable for granting the opportunity to run four days of programming and look forward to continuing to provide programming for the channel.
