Community Landlords Meeting Feb 8th
01/25/2017
The Housing Department of the Mohawk Council of Kahnawà:ke is inviting all Kahnawa′kehró:non landlords to a meeting on Wednesday, February 8th in the Peacekeeper Station Community Room to discuss and gauge interest regarding the possible establishment of a ′rental board′ type of structure within the community.
There will be two sessions - 1pm – 3pm and 6pm – 8pm.
The Housing Department is seeking the thoughts and experiences of local landlords in areas including, but not limited to, leases, protection of property and insurance.
"We′re trying to deal with issues from both landlords and tenants to avoid community members from taking cases to outside authorities," said Ratsénhaienhs Martin Leborgne who holds Housing Portfolio. "We′ve met with a number of landlords and there is a want for some sort of regulation."
"We will also be meeting with tenants to hear their issues," he continued. "We need to create protection for both the landlords and the renters."
