Rainfall Warning for Kahnawake

04/03/2017

The Public Safety Unit (PSU) would like to ensure that community members are prepared as a Rainfall Warning has been issued by Environment Canada for our region beginning early Tuesday, April 4th.

Between 25 and 30 millimetres of rain, heavy at times, is expected. The frozen ground has a reduced ability to absorb this rainfall; therefore localized flooding in low-lying areas is possible.

Homeowners are strongly urged to check that their sump pumps are functioning properly. Please note that no local organization pumps basements due to flooding. It is the homeowner’s responsibility to be prepared.

Do not approach washouts near rivers, creeks and culverts.

Visit the Environment Canada website to follow forecasts and weather warnings or call the PSU at 450-632-0635 for more information on emergency preparedness.
