Heavy Rains washing out roads in Tioweroton
04/19/2017
The Lands Unit of the Mohawk Council of Kahnawà:ke is advising community members that, due to heavy rain and spring thaw, some roads in Tioweró:ton have become inaccessible.
There is a washout on the road often referred to as ‘Highway 30’ as well as one near ‘Broken-Down’ bridge. The roads have been temporarily blocked until the snow is melted and they can be repaired.
The bridge in the Handsome Lake area is in poor condition and a safety hazard for community members trying to cross by foot.
If you are planning on going up to Tioweró:ton, it is best to contact a Caretaker at 819-321-3375 (Main Entrance) or 819-424-2377 (North House) to see if the road to your cabin is accessible.
