Eviction List circulating in community NOT issued by MCK
05/09/2017
The Mohawk Council of Kahnawà:ke (MCK) has been made aware of a controversial eviction list making its way into some private local mailboxes by an anonymous person. Please note that this list was NOT issued by the MCK and it does not support this type of action, especially by anonymous sources. Further, the list is inaccurate.
The MCK has given notices privately in the past but names have never been released publicly by the MCK. However, some of those who received private letters from the MCK in the past chose to make their situation public. Several people who have received letters have since moved away from the Community.
"A Residency Law should solve the issue of who can and cannot reside in Kahnawà:ke,” said Grand Chief Joseph Tokwiro Norton.” It may take time but a Residency Law is the peaceful solution we believe should be chosen and we ask the Community to please be patient and respectful on this matter."
