New date for CP Railway Vegetation Management Program
05/31/2017
The Mohawk Council of Kahnawà:ke (MCK) wishes to inform the Community that the Vegetation Management Program operation that was scheduled to take place today has been postponed due to the weather.
It has been rescheduled for tomorrow (Thursday, June 1st) – once again, weather permitting.
The program is required to ensure safe operations of passenger and freight trains and to maintain the structural integrity of the railway lines.
Spraying will take place on the ballast section (between the rails) of the tracks using specialized equipment that includes shrouds that prevent spray drift. No spraying will take place outside of the ballast section and all safety precautions will be taken, as is normal during these procedures.
The application will happen only once this season and should take approximately one hour to complete. Only approved herbicides are used and the minimum effective amount will be sprayed.
The MCK wishes to remind the community that railway tracks are inherently dangerous and the main goal for allowing spraying is to prevent derailments. Community safety remains the top priority.
