Splash Pad ceremony on Friday

The Mohawk Council of Kahnawà:ke (MCK) is pleased to announce that the official opening ceremony for the Splash Pad Recreation Park will take place this Friday, August 4th.

Community members are invited to the ceremony, which will begin at 11am. A barbecue will be provided by the Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder Program of Shakotiia’takéhnhas Community Services and will run until 2pm.

The Splash Pad has been in operation since 14, Ohiarihkó:wa/July but the ceremony was delayed while other work was completed on the site.

Sponsors for the Splash Pad Recreation Park include: Mohawk Online; Lee Thompson & Family on behalf of Thompson Distillery; Onkwata’karitáhtshera (the ‘One Health’ commission) and Tewateiáhsata’karí:tat (the indoor pool project committee). The new basketball court was sponsored by Kennikaienta:a Cross & Family on behalf of Dynamic Fitness.

The Splash Pad & Recreation Park project was built at a cost of approximately $250,000, all of which was provided by the above-mentioned sponsors. The management of the project was provided by the MCK’S Client Based Services (MCK CBS), who will also maintain the park. MCK CBS has since been approached by the Williams family (Williams Manufacturing), who has pledged the donation of a fence to be erected around the Splash Pad sometime in the fall.
