Youth-led group looking for feedback

09/11/2017

The Mohawk Council of Kahnawà:ke (MCK) is pleased to learn that a community youth-led group are interested in creating an independent youth group/council to represent their concerns. The group developed a survey and are seeking feedback from other youth on the important issues that this group could discuss with the MCK and/or other political groups or community entities.

The initial idea sprouted from the Collective Impact "Young People′s Gathering", where Ietsénhaienhs Kahsennenhawe Sky-Deer presented the idea that Kahnawà:ke is lacking an organized youth group to represent their interests and offered to assist the youth to develop their own council if this is something they are interested in pursuing.

There are currently five (5) youth members on the working group who are initiating the development of this council. They are requesting input from Kahnawà:ke youth ages 25 and under to participate in this survey and provide feedback.

“The Kahnawake Youth Group is our way in to building a future for ourselves,” said Youth Member Sha′teiohseriio Patton. “Taking on this endeavour will not only benefit us, but it will also help to form a better community for the generations to come. Tetewatia′takehnhahs: we help each other.”

The survey intends to gauge feedback on what direction such a council could take, as well as, gauge what issues should be prioritized.

The survey can be taken online at kahnawake.com/youthsurvey until Friday, September 29th, 2017.
