Important changes announced for Fire Brigade, funeral parlor parking

09/18/2017

The Mohawk Council of Kahnawà:ke (MCK) and the Kahnawake Fire Brigade (KFB) wish to advise the community of important changes that are being made to parking access on the Old Malone Highway regarding the area located directly in front of the Fire Hall.

The changes are being made for emergency purposes. The area near the entrance to the Fire Hall will be painted and signs will be installed by the MCK’s Public Works to prevent parking, which blocks access for the large emergency vehicles.

As always, those visiting the Poissant & Deer Funeral Home are welcome to use the non-designated parking spots in the KFB lot, which the KFB has been providing as a courtesy.

Any cars parking in the prohibited areas will be towed once the signage is in place,” said Ratsénhaienhs Bobby Patton, who holds the Public Safety portfolio on behalf of the MCK. “Safety is always far more important than convenience. Emergencies can happen at any time, and the Kahnawake Fire Brigade must be able to respond quickly, without vehicles preventing them from doing their work. Without being overly dramatic, it could be the difference between life and death.”

The work is expected to be completed within the next two weeks.
