Traffic delays expected to affect Mercier Bridge all week
09/25/2017
The Mohawk Council of Kahnawà:ke (MCK) has been informed by the Ministère des Transports du Quebec (MTQ) of the closure of the left-hand lane on the 138 east, between the Clement street entrance and the access ramp to the A20 west.
The closure, which occurred over the weekend, is required to carry out urgent repairs to a support pillar underneath the roadway. The MTQ expects the work to be completed by Friday, September 29th.
This closure will compound Montreal-bound traffic issues for the morning rush-hour, and major delays can also be expected during off-peak hours.
The Kahnawake Peacekeepers and MCK will be monitoring the traffic situation to ensure safety and security of all motorists.
The MCK is working with the MTQ and Réseau de Transports Métropolitain (RTM) to try to mitigate traffic issues, especially on the 138 and 132.
The RTM has instituted special measures for this week, including additional passenger cars for the Candiac train line, and commuters can ride free of charge. A free shuttle bus will also be available from the Chateauguay bus terminal to the Ste- Catherine train station. Please visit their website for more information https://rtm.quebec/fr/planifier-trajet/train/candiac. Finally, to help facilitate the flow of traffic and promote the use of public transit, the MCK has authorized CITSO and other bus companies to use the bus lane outside normal operating hours, between 5 am to 10 pm, until the end of the week.
The MCK reminds the public that these works are subject to change due to weather conditions, operational constraints or work progression and that it does not take part in the scheduling or cancellation of such works.
