Kahnawakehronon safe in Vegas after shooting horror

The Mohawk Council of Kahnawà:ke (MCK) wishes to inform the community that Kahnawa’kehrò:non who are known to be in Las Vegas have been accounted for and are safe in the aftermath of a mass shooting on Sunday, October 1st.
Grand Chief Joseph Tokwiro Norton and Ietsénhaienhs Gina Deer are in Las Vegas, Nevada this week to participate in the Global Gaming Exposition (G2E). Additionally, Kahnawake Gaming Commission Chairperson Mark Jocks and Legal Counsel Murray Marshall are in attendance.
Other Kahnawa’kehrò:non are in Las Vegas on vacation or for personal business, including MCK technician Lloyd Phillips. Other Kahnaw’kehró:non are also in Las Vegas at this time and so far, the MCK has received several reports from family members that they are also safe and sound.
“What happened in Las Vegas is unimaginable,” said Ietsénhaienhs Rhonda Kirby. “At this time, all the people from Kahnawà:ke have checked in to report they are safe and sound. We can only imagine the horror that they felt. Our thoughts and prayers are with them, and everyone who was affected by this senseless tragedy.”
