Significant snowfall expected Saturday

01/12/2018

The Public Safety Unit would like to remind the community to remain vigilant as Environment Canada (EC) has issued a Special Weather Statement calling for the mild and rainy weather to end the week, then back to winter weather with heavy snow on Saturday.

According to the statement, a cold front will sweep across the province from west to east on today. As it passes, temperatures will drop drastically, and the rain will change to snow.

EC is tracking the development of a new potentially significant disturbance tracking up the american seaboard on Saturday. It will leave significant snowfall amounts over Southern, Central and Eastern Quebec. Snow could be mixed with ice pellets or freezing rain over the southernmost areas.

Road-users should be prepared to adjust to driving with changing road conditions. Rapidly accumulating snow and ice could make travel difficult over some locations.

Motorists are also advised to ensure to have a roadside kit in case of an emergency.

Please note that weather is always subject to change and all information related to potential upcoming weather is intended to be taken as a warning and to be prepared.

For more information on how to prepare for storms, please visit www.kahnawake.com/beprepared or contact the Public Safety Unit at (450) 632-0635.
