First Hearing on Tuesday for proposed amendments to Election Law

The Kahnawà:ke Legislative Coordinating Commission (KLCC) would like to advise the community that the First hearing for proposed amendments to the Mohawk Council of Kahnawà:ke Election Law will take place next Tuesday, 23 Tsothohrhkó:wa/January 2018 from 6 pm to 8:30 pm at the Golden Age Club.
The community gave the Mandate to proceed with the amendments and approved the Purpose of the proposed amendments on 19, Tsothóhrha/December 2017. The Scope was determined by the Technical Drafting Committee, with the goal of assisting with managing the election process as efficiently and effectively as possible. The subject matters to be discussed on Tuesday include:
- Development of Preamble and Purpose statements;
- Setting a definite date for the election;
- Appointment of the Electoral Officer by the Kahnawà:ke Justice Commission;
- Clarification of and, if need be, removal of the eligibility requirement that a nominee must declare all his/her private business holdings;
- Identification of provisions suitable for transfer into a Regulation; and
- Establishment of a body to review decisions of the Electoral Officer in an expeditious manner
