Freezing rain warning in effect

01/22/2018

The Public Safety Unit would like to inform the community that freezing rain is expected to begin this evening over southwestern Quebec, including Kahnawà:ke, and continue into Tuesday.

Significant accumulation of between 10 and 15 millimetres of freezing precipitation is possible.

Surfaces such as highways, roads, walkways and parking lots will become icy, slippery and hazardous. Road-users should be prepared to adjust to driving with changing road conditions and have a roadside kit in the case of an emergency.

Community members are urged to remain indoors during this time to avoid injuries due to slips and falls. The Public Safety Unit encourages the preparation of Home Emergency Kits in case of a power outage.

“The 72-hour readiness kit will allow families to be self-sufficient until community resources are operational,” said Director of Public Safety Arnold Lazare.
