First-ever visit to Kahnawake by U.S. Ambassador

The Mohawk Council of Kahnawà:ke is pleased to announce that the United States Ambassador to Canada Kelly Craft was welcomed to the community today to thank representatives of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 219 for their service. Grand Chief Joseph Tokwiro Norton greeted Ambassador Craft upon her arrival.
The Ambassador met informally with the Legion members to listen to stories and concerns about the benefits for U.S. military veterans, Kahnawa’kehró:non enlistment challenges, and the Legion’s proposal to have Legion Branch 219 designated as an information center for any American military personnel who may be living in the region.
Her visit ended with a visit to the cenotaph, where she placed a wreath to honor veterans.
The visit is believed to be the first-ever to Kahnawà:ke by a U.S. Ambassador.
