The Mohawk Council of Kahnawà:ke (MCK) is pleased to announce that Ietsénhaienhs Christine Zachary-Deom will be honored for her work in achieving changes to the flag of the City of Montreal.
The new flag, which was officially raised last fall (13, Seskehkó:wa/September) recognizes the contributions of Indigenous peoples in the history of the city through the addition of the White Pine symbol at its center.
The Jeanie Johnston Educational Foundation and the Hospitaller Order of St. John of Jerusalem are hosting the reception and dinner tomorrow (Tuesday) evening at the prestigious St. James Club in Montreal.
“Christine was an integral part of the team that did an incredible amount of work to bring that major project to fruition,” said Grand Chief Joseph Tokwiro Norton. “She received the Keys to the City of Montreal for her efforts in consultation and reconciliation. We share in her pride for a job well done and are pleased that she is receiving this further honor.”
Grand Chief Norton will be attending the event along with Ratsénhaienhs Billy Diabo and Ietsénhaienhs Gina Deer.
