Spring Cleaning Responsible Recycling

04/10/2018

The Waste Management Department of the Mohawk Council of Kahnawà:ke would like to remind residents of the need to follow the Acceptable Materials Guidelines for items deposited in the 360L recycling bins when spring cleaning.

Items including, but not limited to, wood, old fencing, pool liners, clothing, ceramics and dishware, window glass, leaves and yard rakings, household hazardous waste, and garbage do not belong in the 360 liter bin. They can damage or jam the collection truck, cause delays in the collection service, and contaminate the recyclable products.

The following is a list of ‘acceptable materials’ that can be placed in the bins:

  • Glass bottles & jars
  • Metal cans & containers
  • Plastic Containers
  • Plastic bags (wrapped together)
  • Milk & Juice Cartons
  • Newspaper & Paper products (Cardboard is for special collection)

The list of acceptable and non-acceptable materials, as well as information on composting can be found online on Facebook by searching “recyclinginkahnawake” or by visiting www.kahanwake.com/wastemanagement.

If you have questions, please contact the Waste Management Department at 450-632-5825.
