Kahnawake Community Initiatives Fund to launch May 17th - and photo contest

04/16/2018

The Community Initiatives Fund (CIF) of Kahnawà:ke is pleased to announce the launch of its funding program for Kahnawa’kehró:non who wish to propose projects that improve the socio-economic conditions within the Territory through the development of positive and sustainable initiatives. Applications for projects will be available online beginning May 17th, 2018.

The CIF has been allocated an initial balance of $3 million to be invested in community projects that improve the quality of life for Kahnawa’kehró:non as a collective, in any of the following areas: education and learning; language and culture; health and wellness; and/or social economy. The CIF is intended for grassroots and community organizations, non-profit groups, causes and mobilization groups, or community members. The CIF will function for as long as it is financially feasible.

“The application process is in its final stages of formalization,” said MCK Representative on the Oversight and Review Committee Karlie Onerahtókha Marquis. “Starting May 17th, interested applicants will need to follow the application process and submit their project proposals for review.”

Additional details on eligibility of projects, requirements to submit applications and further information on how to apply will be made available on the CIF website, also to be launched on May 17th.

Lastly, the CIF committee is seeking photographs by Kahnawa’kehró:non to be used in promotions (posters, website). The submissions must illustrate a vibrant reflection of the community. Chosen submissions will receive a reward in the form a monetary donation of $50 to a non-profit group/organization of the winner’s choice.  Submissions must be emailed to Charleen Schurman, CIF Coordinator at cif@kahnawakefund.com no later than Friday, April 20th at 4pm. A committee will select which photos will be used, based on quality and relation to the project.
