Ten Chiefs to Attend Iroquois Caucus
02/07/2008
Ten of the eleven Council chiefs will be in Ottawa next week to attend Iroquois Caucus meetings. A special “Meet and Greet” with Canadian politicians and other officials is also scheduled.
Initially, the Caucus will meet on Border Crossing ID Cards and the proposed Matrimonial Real Property Law. Additionally, the Caucus will discuss the issue of the Assembly of First Nations’ support of Bill C-30 (which would see Native claims go to tribunal instead of process) and follow-up/strategic planning.
The “Meet and Greet” will be an opportunity for government officials to meet Caucus members and discuss issues being currently addressed. This event will take place next Wednesday evening.
As an added note, Chief John Dee Delormier will remain in Kahnawá:ke during this time to be on-call for the community.
